Hooked to Joy
It was about three years ago, on my thirteenth birthday, that I first came across crochet. I received a crocheted scarf as a gift from Sarbani Di. I loved everything about it, the look, the pattern, and the feel. My grandmother told me that it was made using crochet, and I immediately wanted to learn how to do it.
My grandmother knew a few basic stitches and taught them to me. Around the same time, one of my friends gave a presentation on crochet as part of a school project. She had some experience with crochet and created a PowerPoint presentation about its many possibilities. She showed us pictures of the different things that could be made using crochet, which further sparked my interest.
I began spending more and more time crocheting. The more I practised, the more fascinated I became. Apart from the time I devoted to my studies, I spent most of my free time crocheting. I watched countless YouTube videos to learn different stitches and patterns. Using what I learned, I was able to create a wide range of items inspired by my own imagination.

Later, I moved on to more functional items such as bags and dresses. Repetitive patterns have never really interested me, although I have used them for some of my dresses because I liked the final result. For the same reason, I have never been particularly interested in making scarves or shawls.

I started by making keychain pouches, stuffed toys, and scrunchies for my friends.
I don't know where my interest in crochet will eventually take me, because I still have no clear idea what career I will choose in the future. For now, I simply enjoy crocheting, and I plan to continue as long as it brings me happiness.
